Dear Sandboxers,
We hope you are enjoying the final days of 2011 and will slide into 2012 with a strong start. For us at Sandbox, preparations for the Global Summit in Lisbon are in full swing, and we can’t wait to see many of you there at the end of January (see below for an update on Summit tickets).
On that note, after reviewing close to a 100 incredible applications for the Bloomberg Businessweek Fellowship for the Summit, we are now thrilled to announce the winners.
Announcing the Bloomberg Businessweek Fellows for the Global Summit
First of all, we would like to extend a thank you to the many organizations, including Startup Weekend, Ashoka, and the Cherie Blair Foundation as well as all Sandboxers, who helped us spread the word about the fellowships. With your help, the launch video
got viewed hundreds of times and we were able to get the message to inspiring female leaders around the world whose work empowers other women in a remarkable way.
The winners of the fellowship are:
Cynthia Hellen is the founder of GIRLS WHO ROCK, a crowd-pleasing, change-making benefit concert which aims to bring together the strongest voices in technology, entertainment, and design to advocate and fundraise for girls’ education worldwide while mentoring local student volunteers to be leaders.

Tammy Tibbetts passionately advocates the power of social media to create social change. She is the Founder and President of She’s the First, a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world, helping them be first in their families to graduate.

Tiphani Montgomery is passionate about learning new ways to teach single mothers about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and how to love themselves. Her work impacts communities by taking the single moms out of a victim mentality and empowering them to start lucrative businesses and to give back to their communities.

Kelley Calvin is the Founder of Lilypad, an events company for young professional women, the Founder of DC Young Entrepreneurs, and the Founder of Michelle In Training (MIT), an organization that teaches professionalism, self-esteem and life skills to promising underprivileged high school girls in the Washington, D.C. area.

Lina Lustig is a pioneer in the blue economy - an international community of companies, innovators and scientists that strive to improve the quality of life for all. She is developing the business model, research and a prototype for a new approach towards fertility management for women. Her goal is to allow all women on the planet to manage their own fertility without the need to take hormones and deal with their side effects.

Extending Early-Bird Tickets
Thanks to the partnerships we closed with companies such as Bloomberg Businessweek and Bertelsmann, we are also very happy to announce that we are able to extend the early-bird ticket price of EUR 649 permanently and eliminate the regular ticket price of EUR 799 (tickets can be obtained here, the password is “lisbox2012”).
